Wheaton Regional Park – Adventure Playground
2002 Shorefield Rd.
Silver Spring, MD 20902
This playground has been on our list for a long time and it did not disappoint! This was about a 30 minute drive for us – but it is totally worth it if you live further! There is SO much to do at Wheaton Regional park that I am going to break it down into a couple different posts – this one just focuses on the unique and amazing playground in the Shorefield area of the park.
We got here around 9 am on a weekday. It was a beautiful day AND a day off of school so I was anticipating crowds. It was mostly empty when when arrived and for the hour we were playing, but by the time we left (1 pm) it was extremely busy.
This park is SO impressive. I mean … just look at those slides! 😱 There is also a giant blue hill/mountain that kids can climb up and down. It’s coated with the rubber playground surface so it’s easy to climb without slipping. We saw kids using big pieces of cardboard to slide down it like a sled – so fun! This is a great playground for bigger kids as well as little ones – there is a dedicated tot lot area with a sand box and animals to climb on. I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking because this place was SO cool!
Around the playground there is plenty of shade and picnic tables to have lunch including several spread out pavilions. This park also has a train ride and carousel – to view schedule and pricing Click Here! The park also offers 11 miles of trails, (including 4 miles of paved, stroller friendly trails!), a dog park, a scenic lake with overlooks, fitness area, a nature center and the beautiful Brookside Gardens.

🚽 Bathrooms 🚽: permanent bathrooms are currently under construction so only porta potties for now
👩👧👦Solo w/ kids?👩👧👦: really depends, but I had mom with me and I’m SO glad I did. There are 2 levels to the playground and it’s not easy to switch levels quickly (esp with a stroller) the slides span 2 levels of the playground so it was helpful for one of us to hang out at the bottom and the other at the top!
🛒 Stroller friendly?🛒: yes – ramps throughout playground and awesome paved trails
🦠Covid-safe🦠: can get very busy so avoid peak times if you prefer.
🅿️Parking🅿️: free parking lot next to the playground
🧺 Picnic tables: Yes, several nice covered pavilions – great spot to bring lunch!
