Dewey Local Park has 2 sections – one for toddlers and one for bigger kids. It had some really unique equipment that we haven’t seen elsewhere and I especially loved what they had on the toddler side – lots of little things to keep my 16 m/o entertained and the equipment was nice and low to the ground! There are also 2 fenced in dog parks, paved walking trails, natural surface hiking trails, a partially shaded outdoor fitness station for adults (right next to the playground), an inline skating rink and a trike track! The trike track was a highlight for us – basically a paved trail around the playground, but they painted lines to make it look like a road and included road signs (stop signs, yield, etc) around the track – my girls loved it!
This park was redone in 2020 so everything is new and in great shape. Another great unique feature is the “art in the park” – several huge brightly colored murals by artist Juan Pineda cover the various buildings on the property. They are beautiful and a really fun addition to the park.
We visited on a weekday morning in the summer from 8-11. It was mostly empty from 8-10 but quite a few families arrived after that. I’ve heard this park can get very busy on the weekends so keep that in mind!
Last thing – The hiking trails here do provide some access to nearby Rock Creek – but unfortunately the route we took was blocked by a huge tree! So I don’t have any insight on which trails to take to get down to the creek, and can’t find a trail map online. If anyone has any tips, please let me know so I can share!
We had such a fun morning here and I cannot recommend this park enough – great for kids of all ages!
