Double Rock Park
8211 Glen Rd.
Parkville, MD
When delivering flowers to the winner of the giveaway, I asked her for any recommendations nearby and she sent me to Double Rock Park in Parkville. I was excited about this bc I knew @baltimorefamilyfun on instagram had been several times so I used her post as a guide and she was super helpful! Most of the tips in this post like which trail to take, the correct address, etc came from her page, so definitely check it out!
When going to Double Rock, use the address I listed above. When I typed the park name into the GPS it took me to a service entrance. When you arrive, park in the first lot. There are 2 trailheads here – we took the blue trailhead which starts down a set of stairs. At the bottom of the stairs you will see a playground to your left and a pavilion and the trailhead on your right. The trail starts out as paved but sadly I don’t know how long the paved portion is bc we didn’t walk very far. Our main goal was to play in the water so we turned right at the very first big entrance to the stream we found (it was marked with 3 blue blazes on the tree)
The stream is beautiful with clear water, HUGE boulders and a light current. This is a perfect wading spot for littles – never more than knee deep. The cool boulders make it a unique change of scenery from some of the streams closer to us! Don’t forget to bring water shoes!
After playing in the water we played at the playground and had lunch. We saw a few people on the trails but had the (partially shaded!!) playground to ourselves the whole time!
🚽 Bathrooms 🚽: We tried to use the bathrooms near the playground but they were locked 😩
👩👧👦Solo w/ kids?👩👧👦: I’m kind of a ‘crime junkie’ so I don’t do remote trails by myself 😬 but otherwise it’s totally fine and manageable.
🛒 Stroller friendly?🛒: yes, you can avoid stairs to trailhead by walking down hill along road. But I’d recommend using a carrier instead.
😷Covid😷: passed very few people on the trail, plenty of room to spread out
🅿️Parking🅿️: park in very first lot by the entrance
⏰ Timing ⏰: 2 + hours
🧺 Picnic Tables: yes, covered pavilion
