We had such a fun time visiting Adkins Arboretum! This park is located within Tuckahoe State Park but is managed by a separate non-profit organization. The Arboretum includes a visitor center (now open!), 5 miles of paths, children’s play garden, goats, a small nature play space and a few playhouses throughout the property.
The arboretum provides the best, most detailed maps from any place we’ve visited – super helpful when you’re going some place new!

Around the visitor center there is a pond where we saw several geese, ducks, turtles and huge frogs (and TONS of huge tadpoles). The girls loved walking on the boardwalks and looking for animals.
Behind the visitor center is a small sandbox in a boat, a small playhouse (with a ladder inside to look out the top dormer windows) and 2 picnic tables where we stopped to have lunch.
The highlight of our visit was walking on the Upland Walk trail. A bridge takes you over a small stream and there were tons of wildflowers blooming. The girls loved throwing rocks in the stream and looking for frogs! Adkins Arboretum is a perfect place to visit for kids of all ages – the paths are perfect for little legs to manage and there is so much to see to keep them interested.
