Lake Waterford is one of the recently renovated playgrounds in Anne Arundel county and it did not disappoint! This might be our favorite of the 3 new county playgrounds from this year. It was perfect for my kids and not busy at all. The playground is on a huge, flat open area and is surrounded by a split rail fence so kids stay mostly contained. Pretty much anywhere you stand you can keep your kids in view. There are so many things to do/play on here and plenty of space to spread out.
Lake Waterford park has dozens of picnic tables spread out surrounding the playground. There is a covered pavilion here and 2 more near the lake. The lake is a short walk from the playground on a paved trail. The trail goes partially around the lake over a bridge and there is a small dock with benches where we sat and had lunch. There is also a natural surface trail through the woods, but we didn’t follow that since I had the stroller with me. FYI the paved trail has no ‘buffer’ area between the path and the water so if you have wandering little ones you might want to keep them in the stroller here.
We arrived at 9:30 on a weekday and shared the playground with one other kid for over an hour. We walked to the lake (no one there!) and came back and there were 2-3 other families there at that point but still plenty of room.
This park is super close to Kinder Farm Park and WAY less busy (when we were there at least!) AND it’s FREE! We will definitely come back here soon!
