Blacksox Park Story Book Trail
2201 Mitchellville Rd.
Bowie, MD 20715
This is the first story book trail in the City of Bowie (and our first ever!) and we were so excited to check it out! The city plans to change the book out roughly every six weeks. When we went, the book was “It’s Okay To Be Different” by Todd Parr. It is a really cute book!
There are two entrances to Blacksox Park – Mount Oak Rd and Mitchellville Rd. The book begins at the tot lot on Mount Oak Rd. The tricky part however is there is NO parking on this side of the park 🤷🏻♀️ so we parked in the parking lot at the Mitchellville entrance by the baseball fields (address above), walked the whole trail to the tot lot, played for a while, and then read the book on our way back to the Mitchellville parking lot. I’m hoping maybe they will change this so the book begins at the parking lot instead! Just FYI, do NOT park in the lot right on Mitchellville Rd, drive further back to the next parking lot and park there – you will see the entrance to the trail!
The story trail was really cute! The girls loved running up to each new page. The trail wound through the woods and was fully paved – I didn’t even know this trail existed! The tot lot here is very simple and no frills but somehow the girls managed to play for 2 hours – a good reminder that kids don’t need anything fancy to have a good time!
