This week we visited Severn-Danza Park. This is definitely a new favorite spot for us, cannot believe we didn’t know this was here! Severn-Danza park has several athletic fields, a paved walking trail, TWO nice playgrounds and most importantly, a BMX track that is open to the public! As soon as I saw this place I knew we had to get here ASAP. I never would have thought the track was open for public use, but as long as there is no event going on, anyone can use it! From what I have heard, the BMX events are usually Friday evening or Saturdays – so just keep that in mind when planning a visit.
We parked next to the track and entered the course in between the two buildings. I was unsure how my girls would do here since they still aren’t super confident on their bikes, but the center portion of the track was perfect for them. They were a little uneasy at first but within about 5 minutes they were unstoppable (and my kids are not normally super adventurous with stuff like this!) The hills in the center portion were small and shallow so we just went back and forth in this section. Around the rest of the course the hills are longer/steeper – we will try those out next time! I was a little worried what the track would be like because it rained the night before, but there were no puddles and it wasn’t slick at all. I practically had to drag them away from here so we could check out the playgrounds!
The two playgrounds are just a short walk from the track along a paved trail around the athletic trails. Each had swings (including a mommy and me swing at the green park), and one big climbing structure at each. We were there on a Monday morning from 9-11 and didn’t see anyone else at the bike track or either playground the entire time. There are TONS of athletic fields here so I imagine it gets very busy during events. If you have little ones I would recommend gettin to the bike track early because I’m sure it gets more use by kids of all ages later in the day!
When we arrived at the park I was so surprised to see that it was right across the street from one of our favorite donut shops, Carlson’s Donuts (we usually go here when we visit the airplane park – I shared about them before in my post about that park!) They are closed on Mondays so we sadly didn’t get any this time but I highly recommend grabbing some if you visit this park – but go early because they sell out fast! Their address is 7846 Telegraph Rd. Severn, MD 21144. If you are familiar with the Carlson’s in Annapolis – this is owned by the same people! (Just FYI they do not offer curbside pick up though, so you do have to go inside.)
Highly recommend checking out this park and grabbing some donuts on the way.
