White Marsh Park in Bowie is our go-to for a quick trip to get the girls outside and feel like were far from home – even though it is less than 5 minutes from our house! There are 2 entrances – the main entrance is through the SportFit entrance off of 301. Drive past Sport Fit straight back and the trail entrance is all the way in the back. The Stonybrook Drive entrance has a small section of street off the main road with parking for 4-6 cars.

There is a small, simple playground by the Sportfit trail entrance (in pictures), and a brand new football themed playground near the fields and concession stand.

There are about 2 miles of paved trails through the woods, so this is a great place for stroller walks or bikes. There are a few hills near the trail entrances so keep that in mind, otherwise it is mostly flat. We also recently discovered that there are tons of natural surface hiking trails (that is where most of these pictures are from). These trails can be accessed in several spots along the paved trail, but we usually start at the trailhead behind the Bowie Playhouse. The hiking trails are fairly easy – the twins (3) could do them without any issues!

We love coming here to walk, ride bikes and throw rocks in the stream. We usually stick to the smaller playground only because its more convenient to the trail. There is also a pavilion with picnic tables there if you want to pack a lunch.

Across the parking lot from the trail entrance is the new sports themed playground. Just completed in 2020, it is SO nice and has really unique equipment! One play structure is shaped like a football helmet, there are two lacrosse stick climbers, and a toddler area with a concession stand theme (my kids call this “the hotdog park” because there is a slide shaped like a hotdog 🤣 The rubber play surface is painted to look like the a football field. This is a great playground to bring early walkers because it is totally flat and the rubber surface is in perfect condition (not crumbling anywhere) – next time I’m going to bring the push walker for my 1 y/o to walk around.

The playground is set between the turf football field an a baseball field. There is a brand new building with the concession stand and really nice clean bathrooms (2 family restrooms, then separate mens/womens rooms!) There are TONS of nice tables, a fancy water fountain and even a solar powered phone charging station. They definitely spared no expense here!

We had the park to ourselves on a chilly weekday around 11, but we have found it to be pretty busy on the weekends and evenings due to sporting events so we avoid those times. If you can get there during the day during the week, the nice bathrooms and picnic area makes it a great spot to hang out and bring lunch.

🚽 Bathrooms 🚽: nice, new clean bathrooms at the new playground – Even had large family style locking restrooms. Portages potties at the smaller playground
👩‍👧‍👦Solo w/ kids?👩‍👧‍👦: yes
🛒 Stroller friendly?🛒: yes, for everything except the hiking trail portion
🦠Covid-safe🦠: Sports playground was empty while we were there, but gets busy evenings/weekends due to sports. Smaller playground is usually quiet, trails have plenty of room to distance.
🅿️Parking🅿️: several huge parking lots, or street parking by Stonybrook Dr. Entrance
Picnic tables: yes!
